Tipos de volcanes:
- conos de cenizas: se forman en lugares donde las erupciones son de tipo explosivo.
- Estratovolcanes: son volcanes que alternan erupciones explosivas .
- Hawaiano: la lava que expulsa son muy fluidas.
- Estromboliano: la lava es fluida con desprendimientos abundantes.
- Vulcaniano: en este tipo de volcanes se desprenden grandes cantidades de lava.
Partes de un volcán:
- Cráter: es la puerta de salida del volcán.
- Chimenea: es un conducto por donde sale el magma.
- Cono volcánico: parte del volcán formada por los materiales expulsados.
- Cámara magmática: es donde se acumula el magma antes de salir.
- Fumarolas: son emisiones de gases de la lava.
- Solfataras: son emisiones de vapor de agua y ácido sulfhídrico.
- Mofetas: son fumarolas frías que desprenden dióxido de carbono.
Materiales de un volcán:
Sólidas: los materiales sólidos arrojados por los volcanes en erupción se llaman piroclastos.
Líquidos: los materiales fundidos más o menos líquidos están constituidos por la lava.
Gaseosos: consisten primordialmente en gases sulfurosos.
